MFC – Guardian of Curaçao’s Monumental Heritage
Since 1992, Stichting Monumentenfonds Curaçao (MFC) has actively dedicated itself to preserving the island's rich heritage. Founded by the government, MFC is the driving force behind the restoration and conservation of protected monuments—with the historic city center of Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as its crown jewel.
Our Mission and Vision
Our mission is clear: “To promote the restoration and conservation of Curaçao’s monuments and historic Willemstad in general through subsidies, financing and advisory services.”
Our vision is to be a proactive, modern organisation that responds effectively to the changing financial needs of monument owners and developers, with particular attention to Willemstad as a cultural anchor point.
What exactly do we do?
MFC supports monument owners in various ways:
Subsidies and Loans
In collaboration with the government, we provide financial support to individuals and organizations seeking to restore or maintain their monuments. Between 1992 and 2024 alone, we have invested over XCG 110 million in approximately 285 restoration projects across Curaçao.
Information & Advice
Whether it’s financial arrangements, technical restoration issues, or maintenance tips, we are ready to share our knowledge. Owners, architects, and building advisors can count on us for reliable guidance.
Monument Permits
To restore a protected monument, you need a Monument Permit. MFC is the key point of contact for obtaining this permit and is eager to assist—preferably at an early stage of your project. The sooner we are involved, the smoother the process.
With a fresh perspective and deep respect for the past, MFC is building a future in which Curaçao’s heritage is not only preserved but shines anew.
